RAWALPINDI, Nov 28: The district government on Thursday asked the civic agencies to check the construction of commercial buildings without designs approved by the Tehsil Municipal Administration, officials said.

District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, the officials said, had asked the TMA officials to demolish all buildings constructed in the city without approval of their designs following the required procedure.

“Notices would be served on the violators and action could be taken soon,” they said.

Earlier, speaking at a meeting of the civic agencies, the Nazim had asked the TMA officials to formulate the building by- laws. “Remaining without by-laws would create problems in controlling the rapid growth in the city,” he told the officials.

Mr Kiani was informed on the occasion that the Punjab government has formed a committee for formulation of the by-laws and the Rawalpindi TMA had sent its suggestions for incorporation in the by-laws.

Meanwhile, during a visit of the city, the district Nazim was told that 550 of the missing manhole covers had been replaced.

There are about 1,259 open manholes in the city, whose covers have been lost. The TMA and Wasa previously had differences over the replacement of missing manhole covers.

The Nazim stressed on the TMA officials to ensure that all the open manholes were covered before Eid and a report verified by the district coordination officer should be submitted to him.

The horticulture department was asked to replace the withered flowering plants on the green belts of Murree Road, Saidpur Road, Double Road, Asghar Mall Chowk, Liaquat Road, Sixth Road and Faizabad crossing.

The Nazim said Rose plants should be planted along the Murree Road, while Chrysenthemum be planted on the remaining roads.

The TMA officials told the Nazim that equipment for the sanitary workers have been purchased and will be distributed among the workers before Eid to help them improve the sanitary conditions in the city.
