ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Renowned dental surgeon Dr Zafar Niazi, who died of heart attack on Tuesday, was laid to rest at the Islamabad graveyard on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people including politicians, high-ranking officials, doctors and family friends attended the Namaz-e-Janaza at the graveyard.
Dr Niazi, 72, suffered heart attack on Tuesday during a visit to his home town of Mianwali. His body was later brought to Islamabad where he had been living since early 1970s.
Among those attending the funeral were local Pakistan People’s Party leaders including former federal minister of production Raja Shahid Zafar, PPP MNA from Islamabad Syed Nayyar Bokhari, PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar, PML-N MNA and former petroleum and natural resources minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and All Pakistan Newspaper Society President Hamid Haroon.
The Qul ceremony of Dr Niazi will be held on Thursday at 3.30 p.m. at his Islamabad residence — House 3, Street 24, F-6/2 — where a collective “dua” will be offered for him at 4.45 p.m., a family announcement said.
