KARACHI, Nov 27: The District Regional Transport Authority Board (DRTAB) has granted permission for the operation of four CNG buses on Gulistan-i-Jauhar-Tower route.
The decision came at a meeting of the DRTAB, which was chaired jointly by the Board’s chairman, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha and the DCO Karachi, at the Civic Centre here on Tuesday.
The meeting, after discussing the request of Green Bus Company, gave approval for the operation of the buses on this route.
The CNG buses will follow the route: Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Nipa, Hassan Square, Guru Mandir, M. A. Jinnah Road, Sindh Secretariat, Shaheen Complex and Tower.
The DCO asked the Board to seek also public opinion while processing the applications for grant of routes so as to improve the commuting services.
Before putting up such applications before the Board, he added, the same should be advertized in media. He also made a direct request to the people to come forward with proposals aimed at resolving the problems and difficulties being faced by the general public in this regard.
He said that people should feel free to advise the Board on manageable routes.
The meeting also approval to the extension of minibus P1 route from Mirza Adam Khan Road up to Hawksbay so as to provide transport facility to the concerned citizens. Extension of minibus N4 route from Qayyum Abad to Bilal Colony via Korangi Industrial area was also approved.
Making alteration to the minibus P6 route, the meeting fixed its course as New Khokhrapar to Baldia Town via Dawood Goth and Khokhrapar-6, Saudabad, Jinnah Square, Malir City, Sharea-i-Faisal, National Stadium, New Town, Old Sabzi Mandi, Liaquatabad, Dak Khana and Habib Bank, Nazimabad.
CHINESE TEAM: A Chinese transport delegation, led by Mr Yen Fening, on Wednesday held a meeting with the provincial Transport Secretary, Raja Muhammad Abbas, at New Sindh Secretariat and discussed prospects of introducing CNG buses in the province.
The delegation, representing an automobile company, is currently visiting the country to examine prospects of double-fuel CNG buses in Pakistan.
Raja Abbas informed the delegation that the government had already announced incentives to promote investment in this sector and provide quality service to resolve the transport problem.
He told the delegation that Karachi required 5,000 to 8,000 buses which could be met if the Urban Transport Scheme succeeded.
The Chinese delegation comprised directors, engineers, economists and road-communication experts. The EDO Transport, Dr Muhammad Tahir Soomro, Deputy Secretary Transport, Rasheed Ahmed Solangi and other officials were present in the meeting.—APP/PPI
