RAWALPINDI, Nov 25: The local leaders of Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal have criticized the government for increasing electricity rates.

It is the first gift of the government to the poor people, they said, adding that “all this shows that power has not been transferred, but shared. Actual powers lie somewhere else”.

Gathered at an Iftar party, the MMA leaders asked President Gen Pervez Musharraf to delegate executive powers to the elected representatives.

Jamaat-i-Islami Punjab general-secretary Azhar Iqbal Malik asked the government to expedite relief works in the Northern Areas and provide all possible assistance to the people affected by earthquake.
