RAWALPINDI, Nov 25: The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu, on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a murderer.

The convict, Mohammad Shareef, was awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs50,000 for attempted murder and another 10 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs3,000 fine for injuring a woman.

According to Chauntra police, the victim was mediating between the convict and his opponent, Nazar Hussain, for a settlement of a family issue.

Meanwhile, the civil judge, Rai Mohammad Kharal, awarded eight months rigorous imprisonment to a burglar.

Abdus Salam had been booked by Pirwadhai police for breaking into a house and robbing valuables from it.

Acquitted: The judge of the anti-terrorist court no 1, Manzoor Ahmad Mirza, acquitted a person of the charges of kidnapping for ransom due to non-availability of evidence against him.

According to Sadiqabad police, the accused, Saleem Afzal, had allegedly kidnapped a person and demanded ransom from his family.

The defence counsel, Rabnawaz Noon advocate, contended that both the accused and complainant had a business dispute of over Rs3 million. Therefore, the complainant masterminded a fake kidnap episode and went to the house of the accused before informing the police that he had been kidnapped by him.

Meanwhile, the judge of anti-terrorist court no 2, Manzoor Ahmad, has asked the SHO of Cantt police station to present his sub-ordinate, Zulfiqar (sub-inspector) in the court, on Tuesday.

The SI was a wittiness in a case, but was not appearing before the court despite receiving summon notices.

The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu, also issued show-cause notice to the SHO of Saddar Bairuni police for not presenting records in a case.

The civil judge, Hasnain Azhar, issued warrant of arrest for three constables of Ganjmandi police, Locoshed checkpost for disobeying court orders.

The constables, Javed, Saqib Akhtar and Ghulam Shabir, were not appearing before court as witnesses in a narcotics case.

The district and sessions judge, Dost Mohammad Khimta, rejected the bail application of an alleged drug-trafficker.

According to Sadiqabad police, the accused, Waseem, had tried to smuggle 2kgs of charas when arrested.
