KARACHI, Nov 7: The Commerce Lecturers and Professors’ Association has expressed concern over the delay in the issuance of certain clarification in regard to the parameters of some commerce subjects taught at the degree colleges affiliated with the University of Karachi.
The commerce teachers’ body urged the KU authorities to immediately issue clarifications already approved by the competent body and authorities, in regard to Cost Accounting, Advanced Accounting and Principles of Accounting.
The association has demanded of the University to design a new syllabus for BCom emphasising purely on the professional subjects of commerce
and business administration and deleting the language subjects.
Secretary of the association, Prof Abdul Raheem, told Dawn that there had been some
confusion over topics included in some subjects of the
First year BCom classes, which had already been introduced during the ongoing academic session.
He said that though commerce teachers had already sorted out the problems and started teaching under revised and approved parameters, the university should issue an official version in that regard before the commencement of examinations.
At a recently held meeting the commerce teachers’ body observed that the university was delaying the issuance of the required corrections which were compiled by the co-examiners of Accounting and submitted to the registrar of the university by the president of the association, Prof Aslam Khan.
It was further learnt that the Board of Studies of Commerce had also approved the proposed clarifications. The body thanked the vice-chancellor of the university, Dr Zafar Saied Saify, for taking personal interest in the matter and urged him to order the sending of the corrections to the colleges immediately.
The CLPA meeting further appealed to the VC that only a commerce professor should be appointed new chairperson of the Department of Commerce of the university. The meeting decided that the election of the commerce teachers body would be held in January. The death of former chairman of the varsity’s commerce department, Dr Abdul Qadeer, was condoled and tributes were paid to his services in the filed of commerce education.
