KARACHI: Transporters threaten strike

Published November 4, 2002

KARACHI, Nov 3: One of the two major groups of transporters on Sunday reiterated that a strike of commercial buses, minibuses and coaches will be observed on Nov 6, in protest against the increase of petroleum prices after every fortnight.

In a statement, the Karachi Transport Ittehad stated that taxis, yellow cabs and rickshaws would not join the strike to facilitate people. However, a wheel-jam strike would be observed if their demands were not met, it added.

KTI chief Irshad Bokhari said they would observe the strike to protest against the President and the federal government.

He recalled that the KTI had called off its strike call for Oct 30, after holding talks with the governor of Sindh on Oct 28, but “We have been compelled to give a call again as there has been no outcome of the meeting.”
