No-trust planned against Nazim

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Oct 31: The members of opposition in the district assembly have announced that they plan to move a no-confidence motion against District Nazim Zahid Nazir.

The announcement was made at a meeting attended by MPAs Raja Riaz Ahmed, Asghar Ali Qaiser, Jehanzaib Imtiaz Gill and Dr Asad Moazzam as well as hundreds of members of the district assembly. The meeting was presided over by Punjab PPP secretary-general MPA-elect Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan.

The members of opposition alleged that the district Nazim was trying to convert the assembly into a money-minting machine by awarding contracts to his favourites.

The meeting claimed that the district Nazim had allocated millions of rupees for areas where his brother, Asim Nazir, contested the elections on a PML-QA ticket and totally ignored the rest of the district.

Meanwhile, a district assembly session was called off due to incomplete quorum here on Thursday.

The three-day session was to be held from October 29 to 31 for approving minutes of the previous session and passing the proposed rate of toll on Sargodha Road, Millat Road, Narwala Road, Jhang Road and Canal Road.

Only a few members of the district assembly visited the Jinnah Hall for attending the session during the last three days despite the frantic efforts of the district Nazim and his associates. The convener announced to end the session without beginning it formally for want of quorum.

Inside sources told this correspondent that a majority of the members had refused to attend the session as a mark of protest against the imposition of toll-tax, which they described as a cruel step of the ruling group.

It was for the first time that a district assembly session called for deciding an important policy issue failed to start.
