PESHAWAR, Oct 25: The NWFP government is activating the Antiquities Act for the protection of cultural heritage and will soon introduce legislation to ease burden on the urban centres in the province.
This was revealed by the NWFP Minister for Information, Culture and tourism, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, in a meeting with a group of archaeologists, who called on him here on Thursday.
The group of experts, which comprised Pamila Rugers, Yasmeen Lari, Khalid Javed, Saleem Khattak and Qazi Javedur Rehman, was led by UNESCOP Director Inyebarg Breines.
According to a statement, it was revealed in the meeting that a law in the name of premises act would soon be introduced in the province to ensure the protection of the beauty and easement of urban centres.
Secretary Culture and Archives, Sahibzada Khalid, and Director Museums and Archives, Dr Ihsan Ali, were also present on this occasion.
The meeting discussed ways how to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of Peshawar.
