KARACHI, Oct 24: Governor Sindh Muhammedmian Soomro on Thursday said that since no political party commanded simple majority in the provincial assembly, a coalition government would be formed in the province.
However, he said, the number of the component parties of such a government had to be worked out by the parties concerned.
The governor was talking to newsmen at the governor’s house in Karachi, at a reception he hosted for Pakistan’s Davis Cup tennis team members.
He said the session of the provincial assembly would
be convened soon and the date for it would be fixed in coordination with the federal government.
He denied reports of pre-poll rigging in the province by an alleged cell at the governor’s house. “Free, fair and transparent elections were held in the province under the supervision of the Election Commission”, he said.
Answering a question, Mr Soomro said that postings and transfers of officials was a routine exercise at the start of the financial year, so that they could oversee the execution of various developments projects and schemes throughout the province. “The postings and transfers of officials had nothing to do with the polls in the province”, he added.
AHSAN AHMED: Governor Sindh Muhammedmian Soomro said he dismissed provincial health minister Maj-Gen Ahsan Ahmed as he was involved in malpractice, corruption and maladministration.
“I had summoned him (Ahsan Ahmed) to the governor’s house in Karachi on Wednesday, October 23, to convey to him the decision of his dismissal on these charges, but he refused to comply. Then he resigned and announced his decision to join a political party the same afternoon”, the governor told newsmen at the governor’s house in Karachi on Thursday.
“Mr Ahsan Ahmed was a party to all the decisions taken by the provincial cabinet, and supported all actions of the Sindh government as a minister”, the governor said and added that Mr Ahsan Ahmed never raised any objections on the devolution of power plan or the holding and results of the presidential referendum. The governor strongly denied that Mr Ahsan Ahmed’s dismissal was caused by the differences he had with him and the provincial government.—PPI
