KARACHI, Oct 23: The merit list for admissions on the self- finance basis to MBBS first-year classes at Dow Medical and Sindh medical colleges will be released on Saturday.

Sources in the selection committee for Karachi medical colleges said on Wednesday that 471 applications had been received from local students against 46 self-finance seats at the two medical colleges, while 12-15 applications were submitted by children of overseas Pakistanis.

The students had already appeared in the entrance test and a number of them had also been selected against merit seats. The self-finance merit list would be prepared by omitting those already selected for admission.

The list of overseas Pakistani students would also be released on Saturday. Local students are required to pay Rs150,000 per year, while children of the overseas Pakistanis would be charged US $5,000 per year.

Under the self-finance programme, a total of 115 seats in MBBS classes are reserved for local students, 18 for overseas Pakistanis and 36 seats for foreign nationals in the five medical colleges of Sindh.

The cases of foreign nationals are processed by the economic affairs division, Islamabad.
