PESHAWAR, Oct 22: The Supreme Court here on Monday cancelled the bail granted to an accused in the murder case of senior superintendent of police, Dera Ismail Khan, Ijaz Ahmad Langrial.

Police took the accused, Saadat Hussain, into custody after the order was pronounced by a bench, comprising Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal and Justice Tanveer Ahmad Khan.

Saadat Hussain and a co-accused, Ahsan Haider, were granted bail by Peshawar High Court and the order was challenged by the provincial government before the Supreme Court. The bench upheld the bail granted to Ahsan Haider. The SSP was killed in D.I. Khan on May 7, 2001.

NWFP Additional Advocate-General Mussarat Hillali appeared for the state and argued that the accused were directly involved in the murder. She stated that one of the accused was driving the motorcycle while the other fired at the deceased.

Deputy inspector-general of D.I. Khan appeared on the court’s notice to explain the position of his department about promotion of an inspector, Enayat Khan, who was charged in the case. He stated that Enayat was given shoulder-promotion after completion of a specific period as inspector. He added that through the promotion the inspector did not receive any monetary benefit nor was it a reward.
