PESHWAR, Oct 21: The NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has asked the agencies executing the mega development projects to work vigorously and complete the projects without delay.

Presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House here on Monday held to review the progress in this connection, the governor, while appreciating the performance and achievements of the executing agencies, said: “No doubt much progress has been made in materializing almost every project, yet there is need do more to sustain the pace of work”.

The governor, however, took notice of the delay in shifting Pesco infrastructure as well as the PTCL particularly on Warsak and GT roads, and said, that the authorities should put in extra efforts for the timely completion of the respective projects.

In fact, he said, delays not only caused losses to precious resources but also created difficulties for the public.

Talking about the removal of encroachments, especially in the vicinity of Qilla Balahisar, the governor told concerned authorities to take necessary initiatives in this regard.

As far as the widening and reconstruction of Jamrud Road is concerned, the governor said that there should be no compromise on the developing of the road near Hayat Avenue and that it should ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work on the widening and reconstruction of Warsak Road, the governor said that it should be connected to Regi Town, apart from the proposals being chalked about for the proposed Northern Bypass.

In addition to this, he said, Michni Crossing should also be further improved; bus stops are also needed at suitable places. The governor also said that in view of the unique nature of the land in the area, special treatment should be given to laying of the base and sub-base of the construction material of the road.

The meeting was briefed that the removal of encroachments on Jamrud Road is almost complete and the construction of a boundary wall is in progress.

Similarly, the digging work on the second railway underpass at Rehman Baba Square has been taken up while the construction of the first railway underpass has reached the pile-laying stage.

The meeting was also informed that work on the construction of the Assembly Hall as well as the Open Air Auditorium is also in full swing, whereas, the construction of “C-Block” of the Civil Secretariat will pick up momentum shortly.

It was further told that the installation of the overhead bridge near Michni Crossing, in front of Saint Merry’s School would also started within the next couple of weeks.

The meeting, in addition to the Chief Secretary Shakil Durrani, Addl Chief Secretary Jehangir Bashar, Secretary Works and Services Brig. Safdar Hussain Awan, Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, addl secretary to governor Sikandar Qayyum, District Nazim Azam Afridi, DIG Traffic Sajid Owais Agha, Chief Capital City Police Khurshid Alam and DG CD & MD Malik Saad was also attended by representatives of Frontier Works organization and the NLC.
