Balochistan MMA to choose leader in PA

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 18: A two-day meeting of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Balochistan, concluded on Friday without electing provincial parliamentary leader of the alliance.

The meeting, presided over by the alliance’s secretary-general, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, decided that in view of the tribal and social background of the province, the parliamentary leader would be elected later by the Balochistan MMA.

Sources said Maulana Rehman, who is president of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, empowered the provincial leadership of the MMA to chose the parliamentary leader with consensus. The meeting decided that provincial MMA leadership would hold negotiations with other parties and groups for the formation of Balochistan’s coalition government.

Sources said the meeting discussed the performance of the alliance in election in the province.

JUI Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed briefed the meeting about the situation.

The meeting expressed its satisfaction over performance of the alliance but observed that in some constituencies Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal ’s potential candidates could not return to the assemblies allegedly due to rigging.

The JUI leaders informed the meeting about the results of negotiations held with other parties and groups for the formation of a coalition government in the province.

The meeting empowered provincial leaders of the MMA to hold talks with others parties in this regard.

Some names, including Prince Faisal Dawad, Maulana Abdul Bari and Maulana Faiz Mohammad, came under discussion for provincial parliamentary leader but the JUI chief told the meeting: “Let the provincial leadership of the MMA chose its leader in Balochistan.”

FAZL: Fazlur Rehman told reporters before leaving for Islamabad that the provincial parliamentary leader of the alliance would be elected in a few days.

“We have allowed the provincial MMA to elect it’s parliamentary leader after consultation with other parties and groups who had contacted the alliance’s leaders for the formation of a coalition government,” he said.
