ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: The National Alliance will announce on Thursday the name of former president Sardar Farooq Khan Leghari as its parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.
The decision to name Leghari as the parliamentary leader will be announced at a news conference after the parliamentary party’s meeting, a source told Dawn.
A meeting of the central executive council of the alliance, presided over by Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, a former caretaker prime minister, decided to elect Sardar Leghari as the parliamentary leader. The meeting was held at the secretariat of Millat Party.
However, the final announcement would be made after seeking the approval of the parliamentary members of the alliance, the source said.
Sardar Leghari apprised the council about the outcome of his meetings with leaders of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam), Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and former minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.
The meeting discussed the political situation and possibilities of a coalition government. It was agreed that the country was on its way to the restoration of democracy and the parties should cooperate with each other keeping in view their national responsibilities.
The meeting expressed its satisfaction over the performance of the alliance in the elections.
