HYDERABAD, Oct 16: The People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) parliamentary leader will be nominated in the next meeting of the party’s parliamentary board, the chief of the PPP, Sindh, Nisar Khuhro, said on Wednesday.
Mr Khuhro dispelled the impression about any differences in the party over the matter.
He was talking to newsmen at the residence of the secretary general of the PPP (women’s wing), Shugufta Jumani. He had gone there to condole her father’s death.
Conceding that indiscipline had cost the party some seats in the general elections, Mr Khuhro said that rigging had also affected the party’s performance.
He said that negotiations were underway with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, the Pakistan Muslim League (Q), and the PML(F) regarding the formation of government in Sindh.
However, he said, nothing had been finalized.
He stated that the party was still undecided about whether the elected representatives would take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) or under the 1973 Constitution.
Saying that the single largest party was invited to form government in all parliamentary democracies, he said there was no such precedence in our country.
Mr Khuhro said that the PPP had run provincial government in 1993 without the MQM.
He also offered condolences to the bereaved family of Hussain Shah Bukhari, the former SPSF leader, who had died in a road accident two days ago.
SHC: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, on Tuesday directed the secretary, Irrigation, to ensure the payment of Rs3,752,498 to two contractors within a month failing which he should personally appear before the court.
An identical order was passed on two separate constitutional petitions.
The petitions were filed by m/s Caltex Lube Shop and Raja Autos, citing the secretary, Irrigation, the chief engineer, Sukkur Barrage, the superintendent of mechanical circle, the mechanical engineer centre (Sindh), the mechanical engineer, lower Sindh, the district accounts officer, and the mechanical engineer, Central Jamshoro.
The petitioner, m/s Caltex Lube, claimed in the petition that it had supplied lubricants and fuels to the official respondents for earth-moving machines, automotive engines, and vehicles on various rates from 1997 to 2000 in bulk quantity.
The petitioner maintained that these items were arranged on an emergency basis and the subordinate staff of the respondents checked, measured, and recorded the quantity in their records and then forwarded the bills to their senior officials for payment.
It said that the superintendent engineer and the mechanical engineer were drawing and disbursing officers and they were liable to make payment of Rs1,485,978 to the petitioner.
The petitioner claimed that the respondents did not make payment rather made false promises.
The petitioner said that it was suffering monetary loss due to huge outstanding amount.
