ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: In view of uncertainty prevailing over formation of new parliament, the plan of local government elections in the capital and FATA is likely to be delayed, sources in NRB told Dawn on Sunday.

Earlier, it had been approved by the government that LG polls in the centre and FATA would be held on October 27. However, the priorities of the government have changed after the general elections, as no party could get decisive majority to form next government, the sources said.

“Officially, the date of holding LG elections has not been changed. However, it has been confirmed that the elections will be delayed,” they maintained.

The government, they said, was also intending to entrust the responsibility of holding LG elections in the capital and FATA on the next government.

Muttahida Majlis-i-Ammal, which has a majority in NWFP, has asked the provincial governor to delay the holding of LG polls in FATA. Earlier, the NWFP government had announced that the polls in FATA would be held on October 27.

Meanwhile, the aspiring candidates for the LG polls have started approaching government and political circles to get top slots in the new setup.
