KARACHI: MMA seeks Shias’ support

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 9: Every shia in the country would cast his or her vote in favour of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in the general elections on Oct 10.

This was stated by the president of Islami Tehreek Pakistan, Allama Hasan Turabi, who is also the leader of MMA in Sindh.

At an emergent press conference called at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Wednesday, the shia leader maintained that all noted Shia scholars and Shias in common stood by the MMA and they would vote for MMA candidates.

He clarified that those who were issuing statements against the MMA had nothing to do with the Shia sect. He recalled the role of Milli Yakjehti Council in resolving Shia-Sunni disputes and help containing the sectarian fights.

He said differences based on sectarian sentiments were diminishing now and the unity of different religious factions and groups would continue after the elections as well. Shia people would help remove misunderstandings between different sects by giving votes to the Majlis-i-Amal candidates, he stated.

In the meantime, secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan, who is also a candidate of Majlis-e-Amal in NA-245, Karachi, said that Oct 10 polls would bring an end to the politics of myth, mafia and distortion.

He urged the voters to come out of their houses in the morning and exercise their right to vote without any fear or pressure, as per their conscience.

MMA candidates Allama Hassan Turabi, Hafiz Mohammad Taqi, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Dr. Merajul Huda Siddiqui, Mufti Usman Yar Khan, Shaikh Rafique Ahmed and Qamar Rizvi were also present.
