Madaris registration

Published October 9, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: Various clauses of the proposed Madaris registration ordinance came under discussion at a meeting held here at the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday.

Sources said the meeting discussed all clauses of the draft law, but could not agree on the composition of the “Madaris registration authority”.

The government side has proposed a 10-member Madaris registration authority with a chairman to be appointed by the religious affairs ministry.

However, the representatives of religious institutions insisted that the authority should consist only of Ulema, while the government wanted equal representation on the authority.

The discussion on the issue took most of the time but since the participants had to leave for their respective cities, the deliberations remained inconclusive.
