Dettori lands Arc

PARIS, Oct 6: Frankie Dettori landed the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Sunday for the second year in a row and the third time in all.

But his mount Marienbard had to beat two Derby winners to capture Europe’s top prize. It was also Godolphin’s third success following Lammtarra in 1995 and Sakhee in 2002.

Marienbard hung on well to win by three quarters of a length from French Derby hero Sulamani.

Third place, half a length back, went to Epsom and Irish Derby winner High Chaparral who was race-rusty after not having seen a racecourse since the end of June.

The winner was a 10-1 chance with Sulamani at 2-1 and High Chaparral at 7-4 favourite.—Reuters
