BADIN, Oct 6: Differences between two PPP candidates — Dr Fahmida Mirza, a PPP candidate for a National Assembly seat from the district and Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro, who is contesting from a provincial assembly seat — have sharpened.
Dr Fahmida Mirza’s brother, Qazi Amjad Abid (Independent) is contesting for a provincial assembly seat against Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro, who is also the district chief of the PPP.
Over 6,000 votes of the Mandhro clan are said to be registered in this constituency, forming part of the NA constituency from which Dr Fahmida Mirza is contesting.
Senior leaders of the Mandhro clan have been trying to convince Dr Mirza to force her brother to retire in favour of Dr Sikandar, saying she would lose their votes if her brother does not retire.
However, Dr Fahmida Mirza appears unmoved and satisfied over her position.
A tough contest is expected between Dr Sikandar and Qazi Amjad Abid.
Meanwhile, as a result of seat adjustment, Dr Mumtaz Chandio of the PML-N retired in favour of Dr Sikandar Ali of the PPP, clearly strengthening the latter’s position.—APP
