Six injured as candidates’ supporters clash

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 4: At least six persons were injured in an armed clash between supporters of two candidates of Marri tribe in Kohlu on Friday, police said.

According to sources, supporters of former provincial minister Mir Mohabbat Khan Marri and Mir Balach Khan Marri, son of nationalist leader Nawab Khair Bukhsh Marri, opened fire on each after a dispute over erecting a big photograph of a candidate. Mohabbat Khan Marri is a Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) candidate and Balach Marri is contesting the election independently.

The groups used automatic weapons resulting in injuries to six supporters of Mohabbat Marri. The injured were admitted to Kohlu civil hospital.

The administration has called out frontier corps to avert further clashes but tension is prevailing in the area. The FC men fired shots in the air to disperse the angry supporters of the candidates. The police have registered a case, however, no arrest was reported.

Reports from Kohlu stated four rockets fired on Thursday night exploded near the township. No loss was reported.
