KARACHI, Oct 4: A spokesman of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has rebutted comments made by business associations’ putting the blame on the KESC for the recent fire in Lakhshmi Building and Textile Plaza through a press release on Friday.
Arguing the fact that the fire started due to bad internal wiring, the spokesman held the consumer responsible for the incident. He added that the KESC provides power supply only after the Sindh Electrical Inspectorate issues an NOC.
Referring to the Karim Centre incident a few months ago which was also burnt due to short circuiting, the spokesman said that the KESC had identified and reminded the consumers of dangerous buildings where electrical accidents were possible.
The spokesman added that the KESC was very alert, and as soon as information of the fire reached the Power House, the power supply of the entire area was switched off. MD-KESC, Brig Tariq Sadozai and other KESC officials personally monitored rescue operations.
The KESC spokesman once again advised consumers of old buildings to get their internal wiring corrected to avoid any future mishaps.—PPI
