LAHORE, Oct 3: The National Database and Registration Authority has authorized district registration officers to issue manual NICs to people enabling them to cast vote in the Oct 10 polls.

Nadra’s Lahore region director-general Brig Moeen Tariq told reporters on Thursday that at least 100 manual cards were being issued daily from Sarwar Road, Cantonment, centre of the authority.

He said he was ready to accommodate maximum NIC seekers by running the facility round the clock and even on holidays to issue cards to them within 12 to 24 hours.

He declined to give backlog figures and the number of NICs being delivered to the people daily in the region, saying he would talk over it after the polls.

He also did not say how many cards were lying with postal authorities for onward delivery to the applicants. He said a large number of cards were being returned undelivered by the post office officials for they could not find the applicants even in three attempts.
