Two more held in fake NICs scam

LARKANA, Oct 3: Two more persons, involved in preparing forged national identity cards, have been arrested, a police official said on Thursday.

Mehar Bozdar, Ghulam Umar Soomro and Ghulam Abbas Soomro, who were arrested on Wednesday after the police raided a house in the suburbs of Larkana, have been remanded to police custody for seven days.

According to police reports Khalid Kamboh and Aijaz Jagirani were arrested on Thursday from Shahdadkot and Shaikh Zayed Colony, Larkana while Altaf Hussain Rind, a major figure in the gang is still absconding.

Crime registration officer (CRO) sub-inspector Mohammed Ashraf Lashari said that a chit recovered from the possession of Mehar Bozdar showed that he had handed over at least 29,000 fake identity cards to his clients.

He said that these cards had been obtained with the purpose of using them in the election, adding that people from Shikarpur, Sukkur and Jacobabad had been visiting him (Mehar Bozdar) seeking these NICs.
