HYDERABAD: District advisory board for workers planned

HYDERABAD, Oct 3: District Coordination Officer Mir Hussain Ali has ordered to constitute a “district advisory board” to facilitate workers and protect their rights.
Presiding over a meeting regarding labour issues at his office here on Wednesday, the DCO said the proposed board should comprise representatives from government, public and labour organizations.
He directed the director, labour office, to ensure better working conditions, especially in the bangle industry of Hyderabad, to save its status in the region.
He also asked the DPO to ensure immediate response to workers’ complaints about harassment by employers.
Responding to a complaint regarding encroachments in the vegetable and fruit market, the DCO said he along with the officer concerned would visit the area to assess the problems.
He, however, said efforts would also be made to shift the market to new premises.
He also assured educational facilities to employees of the Hyderabad District Council would be considered on merit.
A member of the Sindh Advisory Board for Labour and Transport, Lal Bux Kalhoro, office-bearers of labour organisations, Ms Sagheer Rajput and Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah, and labour officers of government departments attended the meeting.
Later, the DCO presided over a meeting of the HDA management in which he was briefed about the construction and commercial use of the Hyderabad civic centre.
SU: A meeting of the officials the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, decided here on Wednesday to establish an English-language laboratory to facilitate students and faculty of the university.
The meeting further decided a campaign would be initiated by the English department to motivate students to learn English.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the additional English remedial classes started by the university from the academic session of 2002.
The chairman of the English department, Prof Asif Ali Shag, presented a report in the light of his meetings with faculty members and students and proposals to improve the remedial classes.
The meeting decided to prepare a permanent syllabus for the English remedial classes and also to seek the support of other departments of the university.
It also appointed a committee of three senior faculty members of the department to monitor the classes.
Under the students and teachers development plan, the meeting resolved, facilities would be provided to the English department.
Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the meeting.
It may be pointed out here the university started an additional batch in all disciplines for academic session of 2002 to save time of students who had to wait for admissions for more than eight months.
ADMISSION FEE: The director admissions, University of Sindh, announced on Wednesday the last date to pay admission fee for MBA previous, evening classes, had been fixed at Oct 5.
The list of selected candidates has already been displayed at notice boards of the IBA and the office of the director admissions.
