FAISALABAD, Oct 1: Hundreds of students of the National College for Textile Engineering on Tuesday blocked the traffic on the Faisalabad-Sheikhupura Road in protest against the arrest of two students.

A Nishatabad police team arrested two students Sultan Ali and Rashid from the college premises and locked them in the police station. Some students visited the police station to know the reason of their arrest where the policemen on duty, including the SHO, misbehaved with them.

Police told them that arrests were made on the complaint of bakery owner Muhammad Ali in which he alleged they had given him sound thrashing and injured him with some sharp weapon. The students offered the policemen to get them settled the issue out of the police station because it was not a serious matter. But the police threatened them that they would also be implicated in the criminal case if they continued interference.

Later, enraged students held a meeting in the college premises and then blocked the road in protest. Heavy police contingents headed by Nishatabad, Saddar and Khurrianwala SHOs rushed to the spot and held parleys with the protesters. The students dispersed when police freed the arrested students after about one hour of discussion. — Staff Correspondent
