Chinese grab first two gold medals

BUSAN, Sept 29: Chinese fencers Wang Haibin and Zhao Gang won the first two gold medals of the Asian Games, giving powerhouse China an early jump in the medals table hours after the opening of the two-week Asiad.

Wang won the first gold of the 14th Asian Games by beating South Korea’s Kim Sang-hun 15-11 in the men’s individual foil. Sergey Shabalin of Kazakhstan took the bronze. In the men’s individual epee, Zhao beat teammate Wang Lei 14-12 for the gold. South Korea’s Olympic champion Kim Young-ho topped China’s Wu Hanxiong for the bronze.
