ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: The PML-N candidate for NA-48 and NA-55, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, has pledged to repeal all the laws and ordinances introduced by the military government.

Speaking at various election meetings here on Saturday, the former MNA said: “The laws and constitutional amendments made by the military regime would be reviewed in the new assembly”.

He said this time parliament would not endorse them and would exercise its powers for their “re-examination”.

He maintained that the ‘73 Constitution had been unanimously passed by the major political parties, therefore, it should not have been amended.

“The new law, that a person having served as prime minister on two counts would not be allowed to contest for the third time, was a violation of the basic principles of democracy.”

He questioned that how can a government chose and reject the candidates. Let the people decide about their leaders as collective decisions could never prove wrong, he asserted.

The government, he said, acted beyond the mandate it was given by the supreme court for carrying out “suitable” constitutional amendments.

The PML-N candidate for NA-49, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, while speaking at an election meeting in the eastern outskirts of the Capital, vowed to ensure supply of natural gas in all the villages of Islamabad.

He said the rulers in the past ignored the rural areas around the Capital, as it had not been provided with the natural gas so far. He also expressed disappointment over the lack of schools and colleges in the rural areas and promised to ensure speedy construction of boys and girls colleges there.

Malik Rab Nawaz Chaudhary, the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf candidate for NA-49 while speaking at a corner meeting in suburban parts of the capital said all the problems of the country could be resolved with the introduction of a strong accountability system. He promised to bring revolutionary changes in the judicial system if elected. “Only Imran Khan can be called Mr clean in the given situation as he is the only politician who is not accused of any corruption.” Without naming PPP, he said his party was in touch with all the democratic forces for a meaningful change. He lambasted the government for patronising the “King’s party”.

It is a matter of utter shame that the high government functionaries like the Punjab governor were inaugurating the development schemes in the constituencies of loan defaulters and plunderers of public wealth.

He vowed to recover all the looted money if elected in the forthcoming elections.
