SUKKUR, Sept 19: The District Development Working Party (DDWP) on Thursday sanctioned Rs104.92 million for the completion of 29 public-oriented development schemes under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme’s Phase-III in Sukkur district.
The funds were allocated during a DDWP meeting chaired by the district coordination officer, Sukkur, Pir Ziaul Haq Suharwardy.
The meeting was also attended by the district Naib Nazim, Iqbal Dawood.
Development schemes of Sukkur, Rohri and Pano Aqil talukas were discussed during the meeting.
The break-up of the allocated funds is as following: Rs17.80 million have been approved for completion of five development schemes in the road sector, Rs16.96 million for six schemes in building sector, Rs58.02 million for 17 schemes pertaining to the public health engineering department and Rs12.13 million for two DERA schemes.
The meeting also approved schemes for establishing a cadet college in Pano Aqil and constructing girls’ hostel at IBA, Sukkur with estimated cost of Rs70 million and Rs8 million respectively.
PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSIONER: The office of the district public safety commissioner has started functioning at the district council in Sukkur.
The office will redress public grievances regarding the police department.
The secretary, district public safety commission, Shoukat Ali Shaikh, has advised the people to communicate their complaints to the secretary by mail or in person.
PRACTICAL EXAMS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sukkur, on Thursday announced that the practical exams in physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and food and nutrition of SSC Part-II, supplementary examination for the year 2002 will commence from Oct 15.
KILLED: A Lundh tribesman was killed and two others were injured in an on-going dispute between the Bozdar and Lundh tribes in the Haroon Lund village, Ghotki District, on Thursday.
Bozdar tribesmen entered the village and opened indiscriminate fire as a result of which Gul Bahar Lundh was killed and two other tribesmen were injured.
After the incident, firing took place in three more villages — Ghulam Nabi Lundh, Sahib Lundh, and Haroon Lundh.
CAMPAIGN: As a result of the dispute between the Bozdar and Lundh tribes, the election campaign of Khalid Khan Lundh, who is contesting from NA/201 Ghotki, has been affected. It has also affected the election campaign of other candidates.
