HYDERABAD: Probe into illegal detention ordered

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 17: Justice Amir Hani Muslim of Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Tuesday directed DPO Hyderabad A D Khawaja and the DPO (Investigation) to hold an inquiry against police officials of Husri and Hatri.

The inquiry was ordered while hearing an application filed by Irfan Kalhoro advocate on behalf of Abdul Aleem regarding detention of his brother, Mohammad Juman, who was in police custody for the past three months without filing a case and without seeking remand from any court of law. However, the police record showed him to have been arrested on Sept 13. The judge called for submitting a report within 10 days.

Justice Muslim called the two DPOs after the detenue was produced before the court, while the police had denied having him in custody on Sept 10.

The court asked police to get the detenue medically examined from services hospital.

The applicant had stated that the SHO of Hatri police station and investigating officer Mushtaque Ahmed Talpur had arrested his brother, Mohammad Juman, from his house on May 28. He said that the raid was conducted without search warrant.

ROOF COLLAPSE: A six-year-old girl was killed and 60 others were injured after the roof of a hotel collapsed during the Ramapir fair in Tando Allahyar late Monday night.

The hotel’s roof caved in after 100 participants of the fair climbed over the hotel’s first floor, which was declared prohibited area because of its weak construction. At least 100 persons, including women and children, were sleeping on the floor below. The hotel is located near the man temple of Ramapir.

The dead girl was identified as Wazeera, daughter of Lal, a resident of Khipro.

Around 30 injured persons were taken to Khipro taluka hospital, while others were referred to Tando Allahyar taluka hospital. Edhi ambulances brought eight of the injured to Civil Hospital in Hyderabad.
