Koreas okay military pact

PANMUNJOM, Sept 15: South and North Korea on Sunday finalized a crucial military agreement on safety, clearing the way for the start this week of work to reconnect cross-border railway and road links that have been cut for 50 years.

The agreement was reached at 00:40 am Sunday at inter-Korean military talks in the truce village of Panmunjom.

The two sides confirmed that work would begin this week to tear down barbed-wire fences and remove land mines inside the demilitarized zone.—AFP
