Jet Master regains lost touch
LAHORE, Sept 8: Four-year-old bay colt Jet Master regained his lost prestige by earning an easy success to bag the Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed Cup ran over six furlongs, the feature event on the opening day of Lahore Winter Meetings Sunday.
The 3 to 2 second favourite Jet Master from deceased English sire Al trui-out-of-Pretty Face with jockey M. Hanif in the saddle, adopted a runaway tactic which paid him well. He comfortably accounted for his fifteen rivals, including 2002 Pakistan Derby winner King Fisher.
Jet Master defeated Blu’s Wendy by about a length. The fancied bay filly Devi Husn Ki finished third, one-and-three fourth of a length further behind while bay Ahtisab completed the frame, another three lengths back.
Trained by Sohail Aziz, Jet Master clocked one minute 16 2/5 seconds over six furlongs on rain-soaked track.
A race earlier, rank outsider bay colt Bureaucrat caused a big upset by annexing the major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Cup ran over six furlongs. Ridden by jockey M. Hanif, the colt beat fancied Lucky Shot by two lengths. Crysler and Star Gate completed the board among eighteen runners.
Major Tufail Mohammad Shaheed Cup was won by the blue-roan Umer Jet. Puma Star finished second about four lengths back with Asif Love and fancied Good Justice making up the frame.
Major Mohammad Akram Shaheed Cup was lifted by The Conqueror, who came from behind to beat the front-runners comfortably. Piloted by jockey Shahid Rehman he beat Value Of Life by three lengths.
The odds-on favourite bay mare Song Of Peace coasted home at her own pace, running away from the field in the last of the six furlongs to pocket the Capt Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Cup. Song Of Peace beat Baker’s High by four lengths.
Another outsider Prince Khurrum won the Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed Cup by two lengths from Raj Ruks.
