ISLAMABAD: ‘Railways to complete commercial projects’
ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: Communications and Railways Minister Javed Ashraf Qazi has said that railways is going to complete all commercial projects with he cooperation of the private sector.
He was speaking at a meeting of Pakistan Railways here on Saturday. Railways Secretary Saeeduz Zafar, Finance Member Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Railway Board Secretary Mohammad Umer, Vigilance Director Brig Farooq Mohammad and Technical Director Asrar Alvi participated in the meeting.
Marketing Director Khalid Naqvi gave a briefing about the commercial projects.
Javed Ashraf expressed satisfaction over achievements of the railways marketing sector and said it had started work on 25 important projects worth Rs45 billion with the participation of the private sector.
He said that railways had been reorganized as a commercial concern, which had so far suffered due to lack of proper attention.
He said that all railway station in European counties looked like commercial plazas, but here the railway stations were managed on a system no less than 100 years old.
He said the government had pulled the railways out of financial and administrative crisis and put it on the road to progress as an organization of vital importance.
These measures, he added, were bound to bring prosperity to the country. —APP
