Yousuf sets up semis clash with Saleh


KARACHI, Aug 29: Former world champion Muhammad Yousuf smashed a break of 117 to set up a semifinal clash with arch-rival Saleh Muhammad in the 7th Karachi Club (KC) Open snooker championship after they won their quarterfinals at KC Billiards Hall Thursday.

Pakistan number one Khurram Hussain Agha will take on Naveen Perwani in the other semifinal Friday.

Veteran Yousuf slammed the second century break and highest of the event so far in his 5-2 success against southpaw cueist Vishan Gir.

Yousuf took the opening two frames with better brand of potting but Vishan comeback with vengeance to take third.

Yousuf, however playing confident put the youngster under pressure when he mustered the break of 117 to earn applause from a modest audience.

Vishan, took another frame but experienced Yousuf settled the issue by wrapping up the sixth frame.

Khurram ended the good run of play of teenager Qasim Kamani by blanking him in the quarterfinals.

Khurram recorded his break of 85 in the fifth frame.

Saleh also dropped two frames while eliminating Amit Parwani.

He made the breaks of 49 and 48 but could not build a bigger break.

Pakistan number four Naveen Perwani registered the breaks of 57 in the first and 41 and 45 in the sixth frame to reach the semifinals.
