Umair faces Wasif in final

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: Umair Javed and Wasif Cheema advanced to the under-18 final of the Freedom Cup Junior Tennis Championship Wednesday with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Maseel and Asad at the Islamabad Club courts.

In the final Umair and Wasif will be up against Babar Ali and Suleman Bashir, 6-4, 6-0 winners against the pair of Shahbaz and Ibrahim.

Saad Javed, brother of Umair meanwhile crashed out of the under-12 semi-finals, losing to Zain Abbas who beat him 4-2, 1-4, 5-3 in what was a well-contested match.

Boys under-14 singles (for third position): Zain Abbas bt Yousaf Ajam 4-1, 4-0

Boys under-14 consolation: Salman Khan bt Changez Afridi 4-1, 5-3, Shan Sardar bt M. Mumtaz 4-2, 2-4, 5-3, Adnan Ali bt Karam Gardezi 4-1, 1-4, 4-0, Ibrahim Haq bt Hamza Shahid 4-1, 5-3.

Boys under-12 singles: Zain Abbas bt Saad Javed 4-2, 1-4, 5- 3.

Boys under-12 singles (consolation): Yousaf Ajam b t Shan Sardar 5-3, 4-2

Girls under-18 singles (round robin): Anoosha Aslam b t Nazifah 4-0, 4-2, Saman Shahid bt Muneezah Shahid 4-2, 4-2.

Boys under-18 doubles (semi-finals): Babar Ali and Suleman Bashir bt Shahbaz and Ibrahim 6-4, 6-0, Umair Javed and Wasif Cheema bt Maseel and Asad 7-5, 6-4.
