HYDERABAD, Aug 20: A central leader of the PML (Q), Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi, has said that it was not the age of kingship but the people’s Raj and in future no high and mighty would be allowed to enslave the poor.

Mr Jatoi said this while addressing a public meeting at Thano Ahmed Khan, Dadu Distict, on Tuesday.

He claimed that Rais Abdul Hameed Khan Jatoi (i.e. his father) and the Dadu Ittehad had helped the present Nazim, Dadu, in getting elected but he had forgotten the poor people and done nothing for the development of the backward areas.

He said that the government had approved a road scheme from the Super Highway to the Indus Highway in Thano Bula Khan and also allocated funds for this scheme but the incumbent Nazim had sabotaged this scheme for his own vested interests.

Without naming the distict Nazim, Mr Jatoi said that only a few days back he had sung hymns in praise of President Pervez Musharraf but within no time he had taken a U-turn and joined the PPP.

He said that this spoke volumes for the opportunism of the Nazim.

He urged the people not to vote for opportunists.

He said the PPP leaders were again preparing themselves to suck the blood of the poor people.

He pledged that these elements would not be allowed to play with the destiny of the poor people.

He appealed to the people to vote for Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah and Malik Changez Khan in the national and provincial assembly elections respectively.

Earlier, a candidate for the National Assembly seat of Dadu Ittehad, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah severely criticized the distict Nazim without taking his name.

He said due to the indifferent attitude of the distict Nazim, Rs280 million, which were allocated for the development of Kohistan, had lapsed.

He further said that the so-called political leaders were swallowing up the wages of the poor workers employed in LASMO and Premier Shell companies.

Similarly, he said, millions of rupees of Zakat funds were also misappropriated.

The others who addressed the meeting included Malik Changez Khan, Ehsan Jatoi, Dr Badar Channa, Mama Younus Baloch, and Mehfooz Yar Khan.

Many notables of the area including Malik Alauddin, Malik Ghulam Mustafa, Malik Pahar Khan, Malik Changez Khan, Malik Amanullah, and Abdul Hakeem Palari announced joining the PML (Q) on the occasion.

SUSPENDED: The additional inspector general police, Hyderabad Region, Abdur Rauf Yousufzai, has with immediate effect suspended the DSP, Hala, Gul Mohammad Phul and SHO Nazimuddin for their failure in recovering a kidnapped student, Suresh Kumar.

Mr Suresh was kidnapped from the jurisdiction of the Hala police station on July 27.

DSP Ali Sher Jakhrani has been appointed as the new Taluka police officer of Hala sub-division.

PPP ACTIVISTS: The workers action committee, PPP Hyderabad, has threatened to launch protest if the alleged conspirators are awarded party tickets for the city seats for the general elections.

In a meeting held here on Tuesday, the leaders of the action committee— Ghulam Sarwar Abro, Ali Mohammad, Abdul Ghani Khoso and others— appealed to the PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and Makhdoom Amin Fahim not to award tickets to those elements who “had stolen ballot papers during the Hyderabad party elections” held recently.

They also demanded an inquiry into the alleged rigging in the party elections.
