Love Faisal to atone for last outing

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Aug 12: Four-year-old, Love Faisal, who was closely beaten in his previous outing Wednesday last, looks day’s best bet, when the Lahore Gymkhana races gets under way at the Racecourse Tuesday.

The Lahore Gymkhana races scheduled to be held on Aug 14 (Wednesday) are being held a day earlier (Tuesday) because of Independence Day.

Love Faisal in his last outing on Aug 7 was beaten by Blue Champion by three-fourth of a length because the colt was not allowed to run on merit by jockey M. Imran. Subsequently Imran was suspended by the the Lahore Race Club (LRC) for three months.

The stewards were so angry that they also ordered that rider’s application requesting for rescinding the punishment be not entertained at all.

Love Faisal is contesting in the second race in almost the same company plus a few demoted acceptors. Science Fiction, Balal Star and Diva may fight for the places.

The feature event, the Jhang Plate class VII division V has only eight runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. It seems a match between the chestnut gelding Pistol Pete and the bay Royal Man. Both are in fine form and regularly appearing on board. However, Pistol Pete has an edge if a good rider astride.

A very ordinary card of five events will be decided in the afternoon. All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 800 metres. The first race will start at 3.00pm.
