Haripur Jirga vows to field honest candidates

HARIPUR, Aug 9: Expressing their resolve to weed out corruption from the politics and electing honest people as future representatives of Haripur, the leaders of Awami Jirga, have decided to field their candidates in the next election on all the four provincial and national assembly seats of Haripur.

The decision was announced at a news conference held at Haripur Press Club here on Thursday evening.

It was largely participated by the supporters of Awami Jirga from different areas of the district besides Sardar Saleem Khan secretary-general of PML(N), Malik Rabnawaz of Raniwah, Nawaz Swati of ANP, Ali Manzal Khan, Ahmad Sultan Khan, vice-president of NAPP, Malik Khaliq Dad of ANP, Nazimeen of various UCs and councilors.

Awami Jriga was a conglomerate of activists and lawyers of different political parties and was formed last year before LB polls.

Speaking to newsmen the chairman of Awami Jirga, Ejaz Ali Khan Durrani expressed the resolve to pool their efforts in electing honest and eligible representative at district level.

Without naming, he criticized the public representatives of the area for their past policies aimed at serving their own interests rather than working for public welfare.

He said the Jirga in a quest for change would field educated and honest candidates on all PA and NA seats in Haripur.

Answering a question, he expressed the hope that the Jirga, which had the support of over nine political parties would be in a position to get their candidates elected.

Later the Jirga announce the candidature of Raja Tahir Ayub Khan as their consensus candidate for PF-50.

Speaking on the occasion, Raja Tahir Ayub, originally an office bearer of Tahir-ul-Qadri’s PAT, accused the past representatives of the district of loot and plunder and keeping the area underdeveloped.

He said the country was burdened under hefty loans by this corrupt leadership which was required no more.

Replying to another question, Raja Tahir said he did not contact his party and was presently contesting on the platform of Awami Jirga. He also did not rule out joining alliances for the coming election.
