LAHORE, Aug 6: A small and unattractive card of five events, comprising mediocre runners belonging to bottom divisions of lowest class VII, has been drawn up for the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday.

All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 800 metres. The events consists of bottom divisions of class VII, from division VI down to division VIII runners.

Most of whom have not yet even won once or placed on the board. A few are, who have won one or two races and have in the process again come down in the handicap.

There are few chance horses owned by such owners who have a reputation that their favourites or public fancies seldom win. And above all the policy announced by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) regarding the change of riders goes against the favourites.

The stewards change riders of runners who are not favourites. This sometimes encourages the unscrupulous riders of favourites to do hanky panky with their mounts. They often go unpunished.

The feature event, the class VII division Vi race, has the biggest field of 16 runners barring last-minute withdrawals. Four of them, namely, Dillagi, Blue Blood, Time To Lead and Golden Time are the chance contenders.

The winner should be from them, if form and handicap is a yardstick to assess the capabilities of the mounts.

The supporting and fourth race has nine acceptors, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. None of them has so far won. there are one or two who were placed so it is difficult to predict a winner from such runners.

The first race will be held at 3.00 pm.

Following are the fields and our selections.
