Ijaz Shafi elected PML (N) vice-president

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: Ijaz Shafi was elected as vice-president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) on Saturday, despite the opposition from Sindh.

The general council members of the party in Sindh had opposed his candidature and refused to vote for him in the intra-party elections held here.

Sources in the party said that the PML(N) election authority, Sartaj Aziz, had asked Zain Ansari of Sindh to propose the name of Ijaz Shafi so that he could be elected unanimously, but Mr Ansari had refused to do so.

Then the name of Makhdoom Shah Nawaz was endorsed by the party’s Sindh membership.

Again when the name of Ijaz Shafi was put to vote after being proposed by someone, not from Sindh, he was elected the party’s vice-president by ‘majority’ vote.
