Two drown in Khanpur dam

HARIPUR, July 29: Two picnickers, including a young boy, drowned in the Khanpur dam on Sunday evening.

The bodies were later fished out by army divers after three hours of search, officials told Dawn on Monday.

The police said that Ali Hamad, 9, from Islamabad, was vacationing with his maternal uncle Samar Hussain Shah in Wah Cantt.

On Sunday, the family was picnicking at Khanpur dam, when Ali Hamad slipped into deep water.

His uncle Samar tried to save him, but they both got drowned. The army divers later recovered the two bodies.

Locals and visitors said that due to poor arrangements at the dam, many people have lose their lives every year; 14 died last year.
