KARACHI, July 25: Fourteen vehicles — three cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.

One car was hijacked. Two others were stolen.

Five motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered three cars and five motorcycles in the city.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Thursday.

A man died in a road accident in Steel Town. The police said that a van driver died when his vehicle (K-6015) collided head on with an oil tanker (LSB-5480) at Steel Mor on National Highway.

The police said that the van driver, Allah Dino, aged 42, was seriously injured. Three persons travelling in the van were also injured in the accident.

The injured were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre, where Allah Dino died. The other three injured persons were discharged from the hospital after they were given first aid, sources at the hospital said.

The van was on its way from Quaidabad to Thatta, and the oil tanker was coming from the opposite direction when the accident took place.

The police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver, identified as Faiz Rasool, and impounded the long vehicle.

An unidentified man died in a hit-and-run accident on Super Highway at night.

The police said that an unidentified man, aged 58, was run over by an unknown speeding vehicle on Super Highway near the new bridge. He was rushed to a private hospital where he died. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

After post-mortem, the body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

Five persons of a family were injured in road accident at Hasan Square in the morning.

The police said that a speeding minibus (PE-3556) rammed into a Suzuki hi- roof (CD-5783) injuring five members of a family. The injured were identified as Zain, aged seven, Sultana, aged 50, Rukhsar, aged 40, Aftab, aged 45, and Kamran, aged 45. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police said that the minibus skidded due to the light rain and rammed into the hi-roof van.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead in Shershah on early Thursday morning.

The police said that Mohammed Yousuf, aged 42, a rickshaw driver, received a bullet in his chest on Jinnah Road in Shershah. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died.

A duty officer at Shershah police station said that the firing was a result of a dispute over a vacant plot.

No one was arrested till our going to the press.

ROBBERIES: Two robberies were committed in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Complainant Mohammed Aftab lodged an FIR at Saddar police station that three armed men robbed him of cash and valuables who had barged into his house. They got away with the loot.

Husain Ali lodged a complaint at Orangi Town police station that two armed men barged into his house and escaped with gold jewellery and other valuables.

ELECTROCUTED: A young man died of electrocution in SITE on late Wednesday night.

The police said that Mohammed Asif, aged 20, suffered a fatal electric shock while fixing a suction pump in his house in SITE area.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
