ISLAMABAD: July 23: Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries Abdul Razak Dawood on Tuesday opened 11th Mango and Summer Fruit Expo-2002.
Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the efforts of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) for holding such a grand exhibition.
He advised the mango and fruit exporters to give priority to consumer preference and quality standards. Foreign potential markets, he said, must be studied and surveyed in detail by technical personnel and manuals be prepared on important commodities to attract foreign investment in this sector.
The minister said Horticultural Foundation of Pakistan had been constituted after taking into confidence the representatives of leading fruit growers and exporters.
The EPB chairman, Tariq Ikram, speaking on the occasion, said Pakistan was the sixth largest producer and third largest exporter of mangoes in the world.
He called for exploiting the great potential in the sector so that the country could become a leading fruit exporter in the world. — PPI
