HYDERABAD, July 23: The Bhitai Nagar police on late Monday night brought the arrest of PPP-SB Sindh Council member, Abdul Majeed Siyal, on record, claiming that he was arrested following a brief encounter near the Filter Plant.

The SHO, Bhitai Nagar police station, Aijaz Tareen, said that Siyal carried head money of Rs2 million, which had been recently approved by the Sindh Home Department, and added that his three accomplices along with their weapons fled from the scene.

He told journalists that he had been tipped off that four suspects were present near the Filter Plant, which fell under his jurisdiction.

He along with a team went there where an exchange of fire took place which lasted for 20 minutes, culminating in the arrest of Siyal. A TT pistol and three live bullets were recovered from him.

However, Siyal’s accomplices — Nehal Tehlani, Jan Mohammed Soomro, and Sarwar Mangi — managed to escape.

Police said Nehal was armed with a Kalashnikov while the rest were armed with TT pistols.

Police have lodged two separate cases against Siyal under section 353 (police encounter), 324, 34 and 402 PPC and 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.

Siyal was produced before Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Syed Ali Ashraf Shah on Tuesday, who remanded him to police custody for seven days.

THREE ACCUSED: The three accused in the rape case of a disabled girl have been remanded to judicial custody by the judicial magistrate-I, Fida Hussain Mughal.

The court directed the Cantonment police to submit the final chargesheet of the case by July 26.

The accused — Saleem Bhatti, Nangar Sheedi, and Noor Jamali — were remanded to the central prison.:
