Wapda told to put off tariff hike

ISLAMABAD, July 22: President Pervez Musharraf Monday has directed Wapda to put on hold the implementation of the recent increase in power tariff.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) had allowed 47 paisa per unit increase to Wapda a few days back to meet its deficits.

The president taking note of the burden the common man would have to bear as result of this increase directed to put on hold the increase in electricity charges. Nepra has also been asked to review its decision.

GST: The president has directed the ministries of health and finance to redraw the list of life-saving drugs to exempt more drugs from General Sales Tax.

The government had earlier imposed the GST on the sale of medicines but exempted certain life-saving drugs. As life-saving drugs are too expensive for people to buy the president has decided to protect more drugs from GST.
