PESHAWAR, July 22: Two persons were arrested by city police, who were running away after murdering a person in Tohidabad here on Monday.

Inzar Gul, a resident of Amin Colony, and Basharat, son of Mukhtiar Hussain, a resident of Mosazai, entered the home of Niaz Ali, son of Ayub Khan and opened fire on him with a pistol.

Niaz received bullet injuries and died on the spot. Hearing the pistol fires two constables of Yakatoot police station went toward the house of Niaz Ali and arrested both the accused, who were attempting to escape from the scene.

Disclosing reason of the murder, Nawab Khan son of Dost Mohammad, a resident of the same locality, said that one of the accused wanted to marry the wife of the deceased, which created enmity.

Opium seized: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) seized 5.5kgs of opium and arrested an Afghan refugee on Dilazak Road here on Monday.

Sources said the CID had been tipped off about the narcotics smuggling plan by an organised gang from Tall Parachinar to the Punjab province.

The CID formed a raiding party which erected barricade on Dilazak Road for vehicle checking. In the meantime, a passenger van No. Kohat-C 2318 was stopped and, on suspicion, an Afghan refugee, Noor Shah, son of Shah Mehmood, a resident of Tall, was made to alight from the van.

During the search, 5.5kgs of opium was recovered which he was carrying in two plastic bags. The CID have registered a case and are investigating the case.
