KARACHI: More charged-parking lots

KARACHI, July 19: Charged parking system has space for further improvement and it will be done to facilitate the masses, says EDO Finance and Planning Shoaib Siddique, while talking to newsmen in his office here on Friday.

He said since charged parking is a new subject in Karachi and residents are not used to pay for utilizing any public space for parking purpose, it has always been considered a hostility by them on part of the civic body.

However, he added, responding to positive criticism from the general public, a number of basic changes have been made in charged parking structure.

A committee has been formed which includes army monitoring team, elected representatives, traffic police and officials of the department to develop coordination between all the concerned departments to reduce misunderstandings and provide better service to the masses.

He said charged parking not only reduces lifting of vehicles but also ensures flow of traffic.

Regarding future improvement in this regard, he that letters have been written to Estate and Land department to identify space where open parking or parking plazas can be constructed for which a handsome amount has been allocated in the current budget of the City Government.

Same has been requested from the general public and the department is ready to facilitate anyone who would agree to give land for general parking purpose.—PPI
