KARACHI, July 17: The Metro Bus Service has increased its fare by Rs1.
The bus service, which is plying various routes in the metropolis, previously had three categories of tickets, i.e, Rs10, Rs15 and Rs20. With the increase in the fares the tickets are of the denomination of Rs11, Rs16 and Rs21 respectively.
The conductors of the bus service are also facing inconveniences on this very count. The commuters have urged that the increase be taken back and more attention be paid to improve the service.
It has also been suggested that a route be introduced from Clifton up to Tower via I.I. Chundrigar Road, the hub of commercial activity in the province, as this will help remove congestion on the busy road.
BUS FARES: The Sindh government’s labour, transport, industries & commerce department has proposed that the fare of non-air conditioned 2X2 deluxe buses should be 55.5 paisas per kilometre, the fares for air-conditioned buses should be 74 paisas per kilometre and that of the ordinary stage carriage should be 37 paisas per kilometre.
The proposal has been made in consultation with the Provincial Transport Authority Board and in consideration of the representation made by the Bus Owners Association with regard to the buses plying the Super/National highways.
As required by section-119 of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, the notice has been given for information of all persons likely to be affected thereby that objections/suggestions if any in this respect may be sent to the secretary to government of Sindh, labour and transport department, Karachi, within a period of seven days of publication.—PPI/APP
