PESHAWAR, July 15: The Anti-Smuggling Squad of Pakistan Customs has deprived a young man of a carton full of spare parts valued Rs14,000 near Peshawar Press Club on Monday.

The wounded Wilayet Khan, who had a sharp cut on his forehead and blood stains all over his face, told journalists of the highhandedness of the customs men. He said the customs people badly beat him up when he refused to grease their palm.

The eyewitnesses said Wilayet had repeatedly banged his head against the customs vehicle and wounded himself. It is said that most smugglers resort to this kind of tactics. But, the boy claimed that customs people had wounded him.

Wilayet was riding in a rickshaw and headed towards Shoba Bazaar. The customs squad stopped the rickshaw and recovered some spare parts from him.Wilayet said when he asked the customs people to give him the receipt of the seized carton, they refused and started beating him. When newsmen reached the spot, the customs squad had left.
